About The Artist - Amanda L. Houser (maiden Reid)
I Iive in a small town, Penhold, Alberta, Canada, with my husband and toddler son.  I am a multidisciplinary artist (working in Jewelry, sculpture & painting). I have been creative all my life, with many creative people in my family to encourage me. I finished the Art & Design Program at Red Deer College in 1997.  My passion for jewelry blossomed from my love of sculpture, creating figurines in wire, then mading them as small as possible, it brought me in the direction of art jewelry. I would wear my pieces proudly, people would compliment me and I started to get orders.

I worked full time jobs to pay the bills and created custom jewelry peices on the side for co-workers, friends, and family. I've always had an enterpeneur spirit, I created my business, naming it "Wirebutterfly Jewelry", because I love wire, I love butterflies and for myself butterflies symbolize metamorphis and change, and I was ready for it.

I am passionately creating jewelry using wire as my primary medium I use stainless steel most, but also sterling silver, aluminum, gold, niobium and recently Titanium.  My color pallete is created with hand selected beads, stones & other unique components that are collected from around the world and from other great glass and ceramic artists. Design, line, color & texture are important aspects considered in my pieces, as I believe that jewelry should be timeless, wearable and comfortable.

I am an emotional being who loves to express through creating. I create pieces sometimes soft and flowing, and sometimes angular and bold. I work with my feelings to enhances every piece. I have a hard time parting with my creations, but it makes it worth while when someone loves it as much as I do.

I have  taken classes tought by goldsmith Paul Leathers (who is an amazing artist and teacher) on casting silver and gem appreciation, enabling me to create some wonderful pendants and components for my peices, to expand my knowledge in the gem world and to bring this new found information to my jewelry and customers.   I have taken a course on basic metal smithing through the Red Deer College Summer series that has expanded my knowledge and skills in new techniques for my work.  You can see his work at  www.alluvium.ca
Some years ago, I also took a summer series course on basic jewelry making that I learned lots of basic metal smithing.  This course was taught by Linda Chow from Calgary.  She is wonderful artist and great teacher.

Now with a very busy toddler to take care of, I do not have as much time to work as I used to, but I still find time, I love to create and I don't think I could stop if I wanted to.  I have also been painting alot more.  So I will have more pictures of paintings that are up for sale as I find time to get them uploaded to my site.

I also enjoy photography, all the pictures on my website have been taken by me. I hope to be able to have a bit of all my art on my website for those interested to view and purchase.
